There are as many ways to arrange your booth as there are vendors at the farmers market! It can be helpful to visit other markets to get ideas about creative new ways to display your products. You may also want to take into consideration the following:
Booth Layout
- Crowds around your booth are good–they entice customers! A crowd inside your booth is more problematic
- Pay attention to the flow of traffic as you arrange your tables
- Consider shade for your product, and shelter from the rain for both your products and customers
Signage
- Shoppers want to be able to find you! Make sure to include a large, attractive sign or banner with the name and location of your farm
- Price tags, receipt cards, and business cards in a coordinating design are great!
- Consider including a catchphrase or tag line on all of your print material
- Focus on communicating the uniqueness of you and your business by including pictures, recipes, and other special stories
Abundance
- Customers love bountiful tables! Fill your tables–if you can only fill two tables, only use two tables.
- If you have sold most of a product, use a smaller container for what is left.
- Put similar products (ie different varieties of peppers) next to each other.
- If a product is a little wilted, put fresher product on top of it.
Have the most beautiful booth in the market!!
- Make the most of your product’s beauty
- Contrast colors when arranging your booth
- Use attractive, but simple containers. Baskets, colored tubs, and wooden crates can work well.
- Always use a tablecloth, even if it’s burlap bags!
- Consider using the vertical space in your stall: stacking crates, hanging scales, etc.
- Keep your display tidy. Don’t let the tablecloth get crooked, clean up spills, and have a bucket for damaged products.
- Pyramids of products can be very effective, but be careful to avoid intimidating the customers!
- If customers are reluctant to disrupt your beautiful display, do it for them
